Nusa Dua Indonesia is the name of the peninsula that extends off the southern tip of the island of Bali, and it’s also the name of the island’s major international resort area on that peninsula. It is known as an enclave of large international 5-star resorts in south-eastern Bali and is located 40km from Denpasar, the provincial capital of Bali and only 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Kuta or the airport.


Without much argument, Nusa Dua Indonesia is the most successful tourism related development project in Indonesia.Using unarable land that in days gone by was where the Balinese ostracized its undesirable citizens, the Indonesian Government initiated the Nusa Dua project some 35 years ago.  As such Nusa Dua is a quiet, extremely luxurious oasis for those looking for an experience not soon forgotten.  Today there are nine international 5 star super deluxe hotels in Nusa Dua proper.


Nusa Dua's calm clear waters and white sand beach is ideal for beach and water sport activities, the surf breaks in Nusa Dua are considered by many to be just as good if not better than most areas in Bali; best months for surfing are from October through to April. It also offers an 18-hole championship golf course, an international convention centre, and an exclusive retail complex within the immediate vicinity.  Nusa Dua Indonesia is a private sanctuary surrounded by all the attributes of the tropics and is the ideal base for those guests expecting a touch of luxury. It was designed with luxury in mind.  


Nusa Dua Indonesia itself is a relatively new area and has many hotels and resorts on a long strip.  It is a little bit out of the way as far as nightlife and shopping, Kuta would be better. It was developed in the 1980’s to provide an area for exclusive 5 star hotels, resorts, and villas. Connected to municipal sewage treatment facilities, the hotels in Nusa Dua have been planned, and are, the most environmentally friendly hotels on Bali.  


Few, if any, locals live independently in the area, although the massive support staffs of most of the large hotels are primarily locals so it’s not like you won’t come in contact with actual Balinese while in Nusa Dua. If you are coming for a honeymoon or some other special occasion, then Nusa Dua Indonesia might be the ideal place.  But with this in mind, if you do choose to stay in Nusa Dua you’ll be cheating yourself in a huge way if you don’t explore other parts of the island.


You might say that Nusa Dua Indonesia is like the most expensive restaurant in Disneyland.  If you stay in Nusa Dua you can skip the grungy surf and nightlife city of Kuta, but you should absolutely plan at least a day trip to the inland arts village of Ubud. You can arrange an excursion there from Nusa Dua, and you should try to do it as early in your stay as possible because it may inspire you to see other worthwhile parts of Bali before you leave.  You can rent a car at the airport and drive in about 20 minutes, but hiring your own driver and van for island sightseeing may cost even less, believe it or not, and that way you don’t pay for a rental car on the days you plan on staying in Nusa Dua Indonesia.
